CheckoutArnold's essential diagnosis of what is wrong in the world – fragmentation, alienation, lust for power and wealth – is as precise today as when he penned this essay in the 1920s. He explores the relationship of the individual to world suffering and points clearly to a solution.
This short book explores the relationship of the individual to world suffering and points clearly to a solution. Enlivened by a wide variety of anecdotes – from the ancient myth of Prometheus to the expressionist Franz Werfel – Eberhard Arnold's message is simple but revolutionary: only by overcoming the cancer of individualism can we begin to address the need of the world.
Arnold's essential diagnosis of what is wrong in the world – fragmentation, alienation, lust for power and wealth – is as precise today as when he penned this essay in the 1920s. The agony he has us confront is so grim, it could lead one to despair. But instead he faces despair head on, grapples with it, and emerges writing about joy. How is this possible?
Readers solely interested in personal salvation may not like this essay. Arnold calls for a commitment that may seem too demanding to some. Yet without that commitment the world will remain as it is, full of illusions about self and material things and unable to see the consequences. Arnold believes that this state of affairs does not have to be. It can be transcended by the faith that moves mountains.
Thank you for this gift. I sometimes wonder why people do not understand or care that some have closets for their 200.00 shoes and purses the size of houses while some have no food, no house, not even a bed. Humanity must grow up - we must learn to share, to care for each other and our planet. If we continue upon the path of selfishness many of us are on, we could end up destroying ourselves and our beautiful planet. Am looking forward to reading this.
Dear brother Eberhard Arnold describes very well of the years 1920's. He describes how hard life he lived. He could see the the problems of today in the age of he lived. He saw the future. And he described us the ages he lived. Today we understand better that we need to share everything that come from God. We need to love one another and share. Otherwise we may cause wars as it was in the past
Thank you! Even today's business leaders that are considered to be some of the greatest minds today are proponents of "Servant Leadership" and have shown how successful it can be. The only way to find real Servant Leadership is by serving others--and I believe this can only be done through having a deep personal faith in losing one's own power seeking (selfish pursuits to reach the "top" in life) in order to ensure that everyone is served. If executive business leaders can agree that a top-down management is ineffective and unsuccessful, then I think these words of faith can give us the answers about WHY what they have stated about Servant Leadership is true, but on a much deeper level. Thank you for this book. I wish everyone could read it!
