Claude Wilkinson

Claude Wilkinson is a critic, essayist, painter, and poet. His poetry collections include Reading the Earth (1998), winner of the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award, Joy in the Morning (2004), Marvelous Light (2018), World without End (2020), and Soon Done with the Crosses (2023). He has been a provost scholar and also John and Renée Grisham Visiting Southern Writer in Residence at the University of Mississippi. Honors for his poetry include a Walter E. Dakin Fellowship and the Whiting Writers’ Award. In 2020, lines from his poem, “Baptism with Water Moccasin,” were adapted for a scene in the film Minari.
