Gonzalo Báez Camargo (1899–1983) was a Mexican Methodist pastor and theologian, writer, and Bible translator who collaborated on the UBC’s Dios habla hoy version. The author of seventeen books and translator of more than thirty, he was a respected academic in both religious and secular circles and wrote weekly newspaper columns under the pseudonym Pedro Gringoire. One of several early twentieth-century Protestant theologians who have been credited with influencing both liberation theology and holistic mission, he was an early participant in the ecumenical movement, although he later withdrew from the World Council of Churches over questions of nonviolence and family values.
