The son of North Carolina sharecroppers, Rev. Richard Joyner served in the Army and National Guard before attending divinity school at Shaw University. Today, he is pastor of the Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in North Carolina, where he also serves as a hospital chaplain and heads the Conetoe Family Life Center and Community Garden. He was named a 2015 CNN Hero.
