Paul Tillich (1886–1965) was one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. Born and educated in Germany, Tillich emigrated to the United States in 1933 just after Adolf Hitler came to power. His best-known books are The Courage to Be (1952), Dynamics of Faith (1957), and the three-volume Systematic Theology (1951–63).
